There is an Irish urban myth that says the tops of plastic bottles should not go in the recycle bin. The truth is, plastic tops can go into the bin separately, just don't screw them back on the bottle. When a sealed plastic bottle goes through the crushing machine at a recycling facility, the pressure can cause it to explode. So, caps off, and toss both the bottle and the lid into the recycle bin separately
